More on Greenshanks...

Hi all.

My new Greenshank "Diya"  was launched last month in the Capability Brown designed lake in Danson Park, south east London.  It was gusting Force 1, so the perfect day for a nervous sailor to launch a new boat.

The rowing pic was taken a few days later at Orford in Suffolk.

Re: More on Greenshanks...

Hi, Peter

Very nice boat!  I modified mine bit, building in buoyancy/dry stowage and a foredeck to help keep spray out.  To be honest, yours looks better - but mine has good sea-keeping qualities and places to keep stuff dry and out-of-sight.

I used an alloy mast (in 2parts) and boom, with a sleeved luff bermudan sail from a similar boat I built 30 years before.  It performs well under sail. For rowing I carry a pair of 2-part wooden oars that stow easily inside the boat.

I am about to give the boat to my grandchildren, so I'm glad I tested the rudder to destruction before they did.

All the best

Re: More on Greenshanks...

Very nice both of them.

I have a soft spot when it comes to Clinker prams.

Re: More on Greenshanks...

Thanks Graham.  She's not up up your standard of workmanship but I'm still very happy with her.

Anders - sadly they're both stitch and tape, not clinker.  Still cute though!

Patrick - I pored over the pics of your build as I was building mine.  I wish I'd thought about buoyancy before I finished her as I would have boxed-in under the thwarts.  I've put bags under the rear and middle thwarts but as they weren't going to be sufficient I put two small ones along the hog near the daggerboard case - I couldn't put one under the front thwart as the mast goes through it.  I did a capsize test on a beach in the Thames and found that she floats above the daggerboard case when I'm not aboard but doesn't when I am aboard, so I need to re-think at some point.
